About AMA Expedition

A cultural, astronomical and artistic encounter in Luxor.

AMA Expedition Egypt 2027 is a multi-disciplinary project that brings together astronomy, ancient Egyptian mythology and contemporary visual art around a unique celestial event: the total solar eclipse that will cross Egypt on 2 August 2027. Conceived and directed by artist and writer Dan Aug, AMA proposes a dialogue between cosmos and civilization, memory and future.

Foundational pillars

Astronomy, Mythology, Art.

Three pillars sustain the AMA Expedition. Each one opens a different door into the same experience: to look at the sky and at ourselves through the lenses of science, myth and creative imagination.

Pillar I

Astronomy

Observation of the total solar eclipse from Luxor with the guidance of professional and amateur astronomers, public talks about the mechanics of eclipses, and educational activities that connect celestial events with the history of science.

Pillar II

Mythology

A journey through the myths of Kemet, where celestial phenomena were read as messages of gods and goddesses. AMA explores how ancient narratives still echo in our contemporary imagination and how they inspired Dan Aug’s fictional universe.

Pillar III

Art

Exhibition of the series Dream of a Night in Giza, live presentations, and dialogues between visual artists, writers, musicians and researchers. AMA understands art as a bridge where stories, symbols and observations become a shared experience.

Eclipse 2027

Luxor under the shadow of the Sun.

On 2 August 2027, a total solar eclipse will cross North Africa and the Middle East. For a few minutes, day will become night over Luxor—the ancient Thebes— offering a once-in-a-century opportunity to witness the sky as the Egyptians of pharaonic times might have seen it.

AMA Expedition positions Luxor as a living observatory where science and symbolism meet. The project invites visitors to experience the eclipse not only as an astronomical event, but as a cultural and artistic milestone.

Phase 1
Before the eclipse
Conferences, exhibitions and educational outreach in Uruguay, Egypt and online, preparing audiences for the celestial event and its historical context.
Phase 2
Eclipse week in Luxor
Artistic interventions, guided observations, encounters with local communities and cultural institutions, and the presentation of Dream of a Night in Giza.
Phase 3
Legacy
Documentation, publications, and travelling exhibitions consolidating AMA Expedition as a long-term bridge between Uruguay, Egypt and the international cultural community.

Art series · Dream of a Night in Giza

42 paintings, one journey over the Ancient Egypt Civilization.

Created between 2002 and 2019, Dream of a Night in Giza is the core ART (visual) universe behind AMA Expedition. The series follows a young Egyptian protagonist (Neferu) crossing realms of science fiction, spiritual initiation and cosmic symbolism.

  • Large-format artworks ( oil & acrylics)that dialogue with pyramids, stars and sacred geometry.
  • Strong textures, iridescent pigments and chromatic atmospheres close to eclipse light.
  • A narrative arc that anticipates the novel "The Legacy of Neferu".

During AMA Expedition, this Dan Aug's Art series is envisioned as a monumental exhibition in Luxor, inviting visitors to walk through the dream like cartography of the land of Kemet.

  1. Nile River meditation
  2. Neferu's Chamber Meditation
  3. Neferu's Palace Meditation
  4. Astral Travel
  5. Wormhole Travel
  6. First Contemplation
  7. Alien Metropolis
  8. Altherion College

Illustrated novel

The Legacy of Neferu.

Parallel to the paintings, Dan Aug developed "The Legacy of Neferu", an illustrated novel that expands the AMA universe in literary form. Neferu, a young priestess, travels through space-time guided by enigmatic beings who reveal scientific and mystical truths.

The book functions as a narrative backbone for the Expedition from the Art point of view, connecting artworks, conferences and public activities in Egypt and beyond.

“True visual art lives through its narrative; it becomes priceless when the story remains alive.”
This guiding statement by Dan Aug summarizes the spirit of AMA Expedition: every artwork, every eclipse, every myth gains value when it is shared as a living story across cultures.
